Run The Race, Then Feed Your Face.

5th Annual Say Grace Race

The Say Grace Race is GraceMed’s signature fundraising event and is also Wichita’s largest, local 5K. The annual family, friendly event takes place on Thanksgiving morning at 9:30AM and is becoming a tradition for many in our community. More than $400,000 has been raised over the first six years of an event that has become a favorite of both serious and not-so-serious runners who come to the race from points near and far. 100% of these funds went to support the ministry of GraceMed.

We invite you to come out with family and friends on Thanksgiving morning and run, walk, or stroll through Midtown, one of Wichita’s most historic neighborhoods. Then enjoy all of your holiday indulgences guilt free. Participant perks include:

  • CHIP timing
  • race t-shirt
  • unique awards for overall and age-group winners
  • team awards
  • food and water

Coming to the race

If you haven't already registered online or at one of our registration sites, check in at the registration tables set up at the entrance to GraceMed on the east side of our building, facing Emporia. The first 1200 registrants will receive a ‘Say Grace’ Thanksgiving Day 5K Race technical shirt, coupons from our sponsors, and post-race food and entertainment.

Race Day Parking

Parking is available in several lots close to the start and finish lines. Three large lots are available on either side of Topeka Street just south of 10th Street. Overflow parking will be available at 10th and St. Francis and Broadway and 11th. There will be race volunteers to guide you. Please park only in a designated lot.

The Course

Enjoy the flat, fast course through Wichita’s historic Midtown neighborhood. This area has some of the city’s oldest and finest homes which are opened up each year for public tours. Don’t miss your chance to see them as you run through our 5K course. The race will begin on the west side of GraceMed’s building on Topeka St. and end on the building’s east side. The Say Grace Race is CHIP timed by GoRace.

  • The Pilgrim’s Pride Award: This one is all about quantity. Recruit as many family, friends, co-workers, or complete strangers as you can because the team with the most members takes home this handsome trophy!
  • The Galloping Gobbler Award: Train hard or recruit some ringers. This trophy is awarded to the fastest team. The times of the top 4 team members will be added to determine which team has the speediest strut.
  • The Mayflower Moniker Award: Let the creative juices flow! Come up with the best team name and your group will be taking home this prize.
  • Pastor Jon Jones Cup Competition: This award goes to the Methodist Church team with the highest percentage of participation, as either runners or volunteers, based on their total church membership. The winner hold the cup for one year until next year’s race.

Volunteering

We have many opportunities available to volunteer at the race. Even though the event takes place on Thanksgiving morning, it usually concludes well before noon, so there’s still plenty of time for the holiday festivities!

Some examples of volunteer opportunities include:

  • Course Set-up: These volunteers help set up cones, barricades, etc. around the race course. Once the race course is set, they’re free to go, or to stay and help with something else or cheer on the race participants.
  • Costumed Greeters: Dress up as a Pilgrim or turkey in GraceMed-supplied outfits, then greet participants and help foster a fun, Thanksgiving ambiance.
  • Course Direction: These volunteers stand in locations along the course to keep the runners from veering down the wrong street. They’re usually in small groups, so you can volunteer to do this job with your friends.
  • Refreshments: Prepare cut fruit or organize the tables before the event then distribute refreshments (usually fruit, muffins and water) to participants as they finish the race.
  • Water Station: Keep our runners hydrated, handing cups of water to them as they pass by on their way to the finish line.

All volunteers receive a special t-shirt to wear at the event, post-race refreshments, and more.

To volunteer or ask questions, please contact Lesa Dreifort at (316) 866-2069. Lesa can also be reached by email at saygracerace@gracemed.org.
